The Mosaic (“Mosaic”, “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a nonprofit organization that provides a platform and community for self-directed learners and leaders. As such, Mosaic is proud to respect your privacy and protect your personal information.
This Privacy Policy (“Privacy Policy” or “Policy”) describes the types of personal information we collect from our community members, website visitors, and other individuals when they visit our website located at www.weareborntolearn.org and all related websites and applications, along with all features, newsletters, widgets, plug-ins, applications, content, forms, downloads and other services that we own and control and make available through the platform (collectively, the “Platform”). This Policy also describes how we use personal information, under what circumstances we may share it and with whom, and your rights and choices.
This Policy does not apply to third-party sites, products, or services, even if they link to our Platform, and we encourage you to read the privacy policies of any third-party site with which you choose to interact. Where links to third-party sites are integrated in our Platform, we will make every effort to clearly mark them as such.
Please read this policy carefully to understand our policies and practices regarding your information and how we will treat it. If you do not agree with our policies and practices, your choice is not to use our Platform. By accessing or using this Platform, you agree to this privacy policy. This policy may change from time to time (see Changes to Our Privacy Policy). Mosaic obtains personal information about you from different sources to provide and manage our Platform. “You” may be one of our registered community members (“Members”), a website visitor, or other individual utilizing our Platform (collectively, “Users”).
1. Collection of Personal Information
We may collect the following categories of personal information about you that you choose to provide to us when you use the Platform, including when you register using a “Join Us” form, sign up for communications from us, enroll in services, send communications to us, report a problem with the Platform, interact with us on social media, or participate in our events:
- Contact information: When you register to become a Member, you will be asked to provide your first and last name, email address, phone number, and Zip code. In other instances, such as when you sign up for any of our other services or communications or donate to us or our promoted causes, we may collect certain additional contact information.
- Family information: When you sign up for a membership with Mosaic, you may be asked to provide details about your family, including the names, ages, and interests of your children.
- Account information: You may have the option to register for a membership with Mosaic. In such case we will ask you to create a username and password. You may also be provided with the opportunity to upload your photograph as part of your user profile.
- Survey responses: You may be offered the opportunity to complete surveys or similar interactive features on our Platform. If you do, certain survey responses may call for information about yourself, such as your age, where you live, and other demographic and interest information.
- Communications information: When you communicate with us by responding to our emails, contacting customer service, reporting a problem with the Platform or otherwise contact or respond to us, we may collect information about the communication and any personal information you choose to provide in the content of those communications.
Information We Automatically Collect
In addition to the information you choose to provide us, The Platform uses cookies, pixels, beacons and similar tracking technologies (“Cookies”) that automatically collect information about you, including:
- Browser and device data, such as your device identifier, Internet Protocol (“IP”) address, device type, operating system and browser type, screen resolution, operating system name and version, device manufacturer and model, language, plug-ins, add-ons, and the language version of the sites you are visiting.
- Usage data, such as geolocation data, browsing history, purchase history, donation history, time, frequency and patterns of service use, pages visited, links clicked, language preferences, and the pages that led or referred you to the Platform.
The information we collect automatically may include personal information or we may maintain it or associate it with personal information we collect in other ways or receive from third parties.
This collection may involve the use third-party Cookies on our Platform to help us analyze your use of our Platform and diagnose technical issues.
Personal Information From Third-Party Sources
We may collect personal information about you from third-party sources, including our service providers, clients and business partners. This may include personal information collected:
- From our clients and business partners, such as co-sponsors of events and workshops or joint promotional arrangements;
- From surveys that you have completed that are hosted, operated, or administered by a third party; or
- Through advertisements that we run on social media.
We may combine the personal information that you provide with information that we obtain from these sources, including both online and offline data providers.
2. How We Use Your Personal Information
Generally speaking, we may use your personal information in order to:
- Present the Platform and its contents to you
- Provide you with requested services, whether delivered by Mosaic or through a third-party business partner
- To fulfill any other purpose for which you provide it or you provide your consent for
- Process payments from you for donations, products, or services
- Provide you with notices about your account, subscription, or membership, including expiration and renewal notices
- Provide you with customer service and other communications
- Provide you with information about new content, products, and services and other opportunities that we believe may be of interest to you, whether offered by us or by our third-party business partners, and to personalize, measure, and improve such offers
- Analyze the effectiveness of our Platform
- Maintain and improve the Platform, including estimating our audience size and usage patterns
- Protect ourselves, you, and others, prevent fraud, and create a maintain a trusted and secure online environment
- Comply with our legal obligations, respond to subpoenas, court orders, or legal process, or to establish or exercise our legal rights or defend against legal claims
We may combine personal information collected from you via the Platform with other information we obtain from our business records or third-party sources in order to provide you with a better experience and to provide and improve and maintain the Platform. Additionally, personal information collected about you from a particular browser or device may be linked to personal information collected from another computer or device that we believe relates to you.
3. How We Share Your Personal Information
We may share certain of your personal information with our vendors and third party partners consistent with the circumstances in which we have collected the information, as follows:
- Our vendors, independent contractors, and other third parties that support our business, as necessary to provide services on our behalf, including, but not limited to, website hosting, analytics, site optimization, marketing, email delivery, technical support, customer support, and payment processing.
- Our clients and business partners, as necessary to facilitate promotional offers and provide those products and services as requested.
- Third party advertising platforms, in order to provide you and others with customized information about new services, opportunities, and promotions that we believe may be of interest to you and to personalize, measure, and improve such offers. The delivery of customized advertisements, including the ability to opt-out of such advertisements, is governed by the applicable advertising platform’s own privacy policies.
- For business transactions, subject to applicable law, in the event of a merger, acquisition, bankruptcy, or other sale or transfer of all or a portion of our assets. We cannot promise that an acquiring party or the merged entity will have the same privacy practices or treat your information the same as described in this Policy. If any such transaction occurs, we will provide you with notice before personal information is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
- For legal compliance and harm prevention, including to respond to legal process (such as subpoenas, court orders, or search warrants, etc.) or to establish or exercise our legal rights or defend against legal claims. We also may provide information in order to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities or wrongdoing; to protect the rights, property, or safety of Mosaic, its Members, Users, and others; to enforce our agreements and policies; or as otherwise required by law.
- For any other purpose disclosed by use when you provide the information.
- If you become a member of the Platform, other members will have access to the personal information in your profile.
- With your consent.
We may create anonymous, de-identified, or aggregated data from personal information. We may analyze this data and share our analyses at our sole discretion, including with our business partners, clients, marketing agencies, and analytics providers. Our use of anonymized, de-identified, or aggregated data is not subject to this Privacy Policy.
4. Cookie Policy
When you visit the Platform, we may collect information from you automatically through cookies. We also rely on partners to provide many features of the Platform using data about your use of the Platform. We may use cookies for the following purposes:
- Necessity: To enable features that are necessary for providing you the services on the Platform, such as keeping you signed in, improving security, and preventing and detecting fraud.
- Preference: To allow us to remember your preferences and identify you when you return to the Platform.
- Analytics: To allow us to understand how the Platform is being used, track site performance and content views, and make improvements to the content, products or services.
- Advertising: To deliver targeted advertising based on your preferences, location, and/or interests across different services and devices and measuring effectiveness of ads.
- Social Media: To enable the sharing of content from the Platform through social networking and other sites.
You may refuse to accept browser cookies by activating the appropriate setting on your browser. However, if you select this setting you may be unable to access certain parts of the Platform and certain features may not function as designed. Unless you have adjusted your browser setting so that it will refuse cookies, our system will issue cookies when you direct your browser to the Platform.
If you wish to opt out of our sharing of the data that is gathered when you visit the Platform for purposes of targeted digital advertising, we encourage you to visit the Network Advertising Initiative and/or the Digital Advertising Alliance’s Self-Regulatory Program for Online Behavioral Advertising for more information about opting out of seeing targeted digital advertisements. Similarly, you can learn about your options to opt out of mobile app tracking by certain advertising networks through your device settings. You may also visit these websites for more information on how you can opt back in to the sharing of data. Please note that Mosaic does not maintain this web tracking data in an identifiable manner. Opting out of advertising networks does not necessarily mean that you will not receive advertisements while using the Platform or on other websites.
We do not support Do Not Track functionality. Do Not Track is a preference you can set in your web browser to inform websites that you do not want to be tracked. You can enable or disable Do Not Track by visiting the Preferences or Settings page of your web browser.
5. Your Rights and Choices
Electronic Marketing Communications
If you would like to stop receiving our emailed newsletter or other electronic marketing or promotional messages and notifications, you may do so by following the unsubscribe instructions that appear in our email or text communications. You may also be able to manage your electronic communications preferences in your online account. We will endeavor to comply with these requests as soon as reasonably practicable. Please be advised that you may not be able to opt-out of receiving certain service or transactional email messages from us that are required to provide you with our services.
Accessing or Changing your Personal Information
If you have an account with us, we provide the ability to review, correct, update or delete certain of your personal information that we have collected about you. You may do so by signing into your account or, if you do not have an account, by contacting us using the contact information below. For your own protection, we may require additional information or contact you to verify your identity before processing your request. We will endeavor to comply with your request as soon as reasonably practicable.
6. State Privacy Rights
California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Virginia provide (now or in the future) their state residents with rights to:
- Confirm whether we process their personal information.
- Access and delete certain personal information.
- Correct inaccuracies in their personal information, taking into account the information’s nature processing purpose (excluding Iowa and Utah).
- Data portability.

- profiling in furtherance of decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects (excluding Iowa and Utah).
- Either limit (opt-out of) or require consent to process sensitive personal data.

Your California Privacy Rights
California residents additionally have the right to request information regarding third parties to whom Mosaic has disclosed certain categories of personal information during the preceding year for those third parties’ direct marketing purposes under California’s “Shine the Light” Law. Personal information under this California law means any information that identified, described, or was able to be associated with an individual at the time of disclosure. We do not disclose this type of personal information to third parties for their own purposes. However, if you are a California resident and would like to inquire further, please contact us.
Your Nevada Privacy Rights
Nevada residents have the right to request to opt out of any “sale” of their personal information under Nevada SB 220. You may request to opt out of the future sale of your personal information by contacting us.
7. Data Security and Retention
The privacy and security of your personal information is deeply important to us. To that end, Mosaic maintains technical, administrative and physical safeguards to help protect the security of your personal information against unauthorized access, destruction, loss, alteration, misuse or disclosure. Your personal information is accessible to only a limited number of personnel who need access to the information to perform their duties. Please note, however, that no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. Although we do our best to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee the security of your personal information transmitted to the Platform. Any transmission of personal information is at your own risk. We are not responsible for circumvention of any privacy settings or security measures contained on the Platform.
The safety and security of your information also depends on you. Where we have given you (or where you have chosen) a password for access to certain parts of our Platform, you are responsible for keeping this password confidential. We ask you not to share your password with anyone.
8. International Data Transfers
The Platform is operated from the United States and intended only for Members and Users located in the United States. Any collection of personal information from individuals located outside the United States is unintentional and/or incidental.
That said, it is possible that your personal information is transferred outside of your state, country, or other governmental jurisdiction in order for Mosaic to render the collection, use, and sharing practices disclosed elsewhere in this Privacy Policy. Those jurisdictions may have data protection rules that are different from those of your jurisdiction. If so, we will take measures to ensure that any such transfers comply with applicable data protection laws and that your personal information remains protected to the standards described in this Privacy Policy. Personal information transferred to another country may be subject to lawful access requests by courts, law enforcement agencies, or other government authorities in those other countries.
9. Use by Children
The Platform not directed toward individuals under the age of 13 (“Children”). We do not knowingly collect personal information from Children, and no personal information should be submitted to our Platform by Children. If we learn we have collected or received personal information from a Child, we will delete that personal information as permitted by law. You must be old enough to consent to the processing of your personal information in your country, and you must be at least 18 years of age to use the services provided via the Platform. The Platform may contain links or otherwise provide access to third-party sites, which may include websites or mobile applications. These link are maintained for your informational purposes only and to point you toward information regarding topics we think may be of interest to you and consistent with
Mosaic’s mission. Please note that we have no control over and are not responsible for third-party sites, their content, or any products or services available through the third-party sites. Our Privacy Policy does not apply to third-party sites. We encourage you to read the privacy policies of any third-party sites with which you choose to interact.
11. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The date this Privacy Policy was last updated is identified at the top of this page. Any changes are effective when we post the revised Privacy Policy on the Platform. If we make material changes to this Privacy Policy that expand our rights to collect new personal information or to use differently any personal information that we have previously collected about you, we will use our available contact information about you to reasonably notify you of the updates and provide you with the new disclosures by posting it on our Platform and/or sharing it via email. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy often to stay informed of how we may process your personal information.
